Steffen's move from Columbus Crew looks to have been confirmed on his Instagram account.

On one of his latest posts his fellow MLS goalkeeper Patrick McLain, who plays for Chicago Fire, said: "Congrats on the new team dude, crush it over there!"

City have reportedly concluded a £6million deal to sign USA goalkeeper Zack Steffen in the January transfer window.

He was named MLS goalkeeper of the year earlier this month after a fine season and his form has seen him become first choice for the USA.

In December 2014 he left the University of Maryland to move to Freiburg in Germany but he failed to break into the first team there and returned to the MLS and the Crew in July 2016, going on to make 71 appearances for the club.

The Chile international is set to miss most of this season with an achilles injury.

The 23-year-old has passed a medical and will move to the Etihad in January according to Goal, although given he is unlikely to gain a work permit yet he is expected to be loaned straight back out.
