Leroy Sane is set to leave Manchester City for Bayern Munich this summer in a blow to Pep Guardiola... can transfer targets Jack Grealish and Leon Bailey fill the outgoing winger's void?Leroy Sane is set to leave Manchester City for Bayern Munich this summer The German club were keen on signing the winger in the summer of 2019Though a knee injury picked up by Sane in August scuppered Bayern's plansSane is a huge loss but could be replaced with Bayer Leverkusen's Leon Bailey

Manchester City have some of the best players in the world, including Kevin De Bruyne, Raheem Sterling and Bernardo Silva, so why is it that Leroy Sane is looking to leave the Etihad?

Sane has played an important role in the success of the club after signing a five-year contract for a reported £37million transfer fee in August 2016.

The 24-year-old has contributed 39 goals and 45 assists in 133 games for Manchester City, winning two Premier Leagues, two League Cups, one FA Cup and the Community Shield.

But it seems as though the winger has his sights set on new heights as Pep Guardiola announced that he would be leaving Manchester City after refusing to sign another contract.

Unsurprisingly, the Spanish manager said he was 'disappointed' to be losing one of the best wingers in Europe.

'I'm so disappointed. When we make an offer, it's because we want him; he's got a special quality that is difficult to find. We tried before the injury [and] the surgery and after that, and he rejected this offer,' he said.

'He has other wishes, and I understand [but] we want players who want to commit and achieve our targets. I love him so much, he's incredible, I've nothing against him – he wants another adventure.

'That happens, and we'll help him while he's here, and focus on the players who want to stay. Leroy said he doesn't want to extend – it means he wants to leave and he will leave this summer or next. The club talked to me, and he's rejected his contract and wants to play for another.'

He has won two Premier Leagues, two Carabao Cups, an FA Cup and the Community Shield

During the 2017-18 campaign, Sane created a name from himself as he scored 10 goals and registered 15 assists as City claimed the Premier League title.

He also helped the club lift the EFL Cup and went on to be named PFA Young Player of the Year.

Speculation of a potential transfer started in the summer of 2018 when Sane's relationship with the club faltered.

He was one of the only senior City players not to be selected for the World Cup, having been overlooked by Germany boss Joachim Low.

Equally, Guardiola was left frustrated with Sane's attitude in pre-season in 2018 and consequently cut his pitch time by more than 500 minutes last season.

Though his relationship with the club and Pep Guardiola faltered during the summer of 2018

His pitch time was cut by 500 mins, with Raheem Sterling and Bernardo Silva selected instead

The City manager chose to select both Raheem Sterling and Bernardo Silva over Sane.

Despite his lack of action, Sane raised his Champions League output from two assists in 2017-18 to four goals and four assists in 2018-19.

Bundesliga champions, Bayern Munich, have been long-term admirers of the Sane and were looking to table a £100m bid during the 2019 summer transfer window.

Sane would have moved to Germany last summer if it wasn't for an injury that ruled him out of the entire current season to date.

City saw Sane's injury as an opportunity to rebuild their relationship with the winger and convince him to stay at the Etihad.

Sane later suffered anterior cruciate ligament damage in their clash with Liverpool at Wembley

City saw this an opportunity to re-build their relationship with Sane by offering him a new deal

They offered the 24-year-old, who suffered anterior cruciate ligament damage in his right knee in their Community Shield clash with Liverpool at Wembley, a contract renewal despite his inability to play.

Sane was sidelined for up to seven months after undergoing an operation in Austria, with Professor Christian Fink performing the surgery.

Sane's decision to choose Fink sparked more debate on a rift between club and player.

City players would usually use the services of Barcelona-based specialist Dr Ramon Cugat, who previously treated John Stones, Kevin de Bruyne, Ilkay Gundogan, Vincent Kompany and Claudio Bravo, though Sane opted for Fink instead.

Although City have previously insisted that they had no plans to replace Sane with a new signing last summer, the club will now be forced to find an alternative winger.

Sane rejected the deal and is likely to be replaced by Bayer Leverkusen winger Leon Bailey

Bayer Leverkusen's Leon Bailey could be first in line to succeed the City hero due to his versatility on both wings.

The Jamaica international has only featured in 24 games this season due to injury and two suspensions for red card offences, but he has managed to score seven goals for his team.

Man City have also been linked to Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish for a potential deal in this summer's transfer window.

Guardiola will be looking to add Grealish to his side if their asking price for Sane is met by Bayern Munich.

Should Sane join Bayern Munich, he would bring an added dose of class to the Bundesliga giants.

Sane's arrival at Bayern Munich will be much to the delight of forward Robert Lewandowski

Sane's winning mentality matches the 'Mia San Mia' ethos associated with the German club.

He is the sort of player that Robert Lewandowski was longing for Bayern to sign as he threatened to leave the club a few seasons ago.

Sane's demonstrated his instinctive goal scoring nature in City's win over Schalke in the Champions League round of 16 last season.

Initially starting on the sidelines, he came off the bench to score the equaliser as City came from 2-1 down to win 3-2. While the second leg saw Sane start and play a role in four of City's seven goals.

Sane will fit the culture at Bayern due to his winning mentality and ability to produce goals

Bayern have been made it clear that they want to make a transfer swoop for Sane, with their club president Herbert Hainer expressing his interest in bringing the winger to Germany.

'Leroy Sane is a good player that every team would like to have,' Hainer told BR. 'It has been known for a year now that we have been interested. He is still under contract with Man City. We have to see how things develop.

'But he is certainly an interesting personality, above all because of his performance on the pitch. But he is also a marketable player, especially for the young demographic.'
