It's eight games into the Premier League season.

They go on to lift the Premier League title ahead of Liverpool, who finish in second place.

Liverpool, on the other hand, came so close again last season, but their only experience of a Premier League title race is seeing City lift the trophy ahead of arguably the two best sides they have produced in the last 30 years.

Then Steven Gerrard slipped, and City were handed their second Premier League trophy.

Manchester City sit a place behind Liverpool in the table with 16 points after a set of results that include a comfortable opening day win, a 3-2 defeat at a newly-promoted side and another loss against a team from the West Midlands.

As Vincent Kompany lifted his second league trophy back in 2014, City have done the same on two more occasions, largely with a core of players who still remain at the Etihad.

Unfortunately for City, this is not a premonition for how the rest of this season will pan out, but a picture of how their 2013/14 title success began.
