Club captain Vincent Kompany is expected to sign a new one-year contract with Manchester City that will see him agree a wage reduction.

The 32-year-old is out of contract in June and there have been suggestions that this could be Vinnie’s final season playing for his beloved City, but it is reported by Jack Gaughan of the Daily Mail that a new one-year deal is now likely.

Discussions between the club and Kompany have been ongoing and there is an appetite from all sides to thrash out terms, which are expected to include Kompany agreeing to a wage reduction.

Due to injuries and the emergence of John Stones and Aymeric Laporte, Vinnie is a peripheral figure nowadays but remains important in the dressing room as the inspirational leader.

Kompany has not featured for City since the 2-1 win over Liverpool in early January, with fitness problems preventing him from lining up.

He has been limited to 6 starts in the Premier League this campaign, with a further 3 appearances off the bench.

Despite his injuries, all signs now point to the Manchester City legend extending his stay at the Etihad Stadium by at least one more season.
