The 2019/20 Premier League season might only be four games old, but it's already shaping up to be another fierce battle between Manchester City and Liverpool and Vincent Kompany doesn't expect that to change any time soon.

"My opinion is that, at the moment, it’s very difficult for the other clubs to compete because Liverpool and City are well oiled machines.

"City and Liverpool have a huge volume of games which you can expect them to win and that gives them a massive advantage when it comes to overall league tables."

While Jurgen Klopp's side have improved to at least put some pressure on Pep Guardiola's men, Kompany can't see the top two being broken up any time soon.

"It seems that even if they don’t have a great day it’s still a comfortable game and there are not many teams in recent history who have been able to have comfortable games in the Premier League.

The two sides have left the rest of the league trailing in the wake, with the Blues winning back-to-back titles with 100 and then 98 points, edging out Liverpool by a single point last season.

Kompany's assessment paints a bleak picture for those other members of the top six who are trying to find a way to compete for titles again, such as Manchester United.
