Alexis Sanchez will not be able to rescue Manchester United from their injury crisis after it emerged there is no recall clause in his loan move to Inter Milan, writes James Robson.

But the 31-year-old would have been an emergency option if a recall clause had been inserted in his one-year loan to the San Siro.

United are also still in talks with Sporting Lisbon over a move for midfielder Bruno Fernandes before the transfer deadline at the end of the month.

After missing out on top January target Erling Braut Haaland, the United manager is now hoping to line up a short-term fix to get him to the end of the season.

Solskjaer has already decided to rebuild without Sanchez, which is why he was prepared to let the Chile international leave without bringing in a replacement.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is desperately trying to bolster his attack this month after Marcus Rashford was ruled out for up to three months with a double stress fracture to his back.

Solskjaer has now told his scouts to scour Europe for viable options, with the Norwegian reluctant to make any moves that will impact his summer plans.
