'It is one thing to talk about it - it is another thing to show what we can do': Hugo Lloris insists Tottenham need to start delivering trophies rather than talking about them this seasonHugo Lloris says its time for Tottenham to stop talking about trophies and deliverMauricio Pochettino put the acquisition of silverware at the top of Spurs' agendaFollowing a 3-1 win over Aston Villa, Spurs now face Man City next at the Etihad

Hugo Lloris says it is time for Tottenham to stop talking about trophies and deliver - but has warned their title chances could suffer a decisive hit if they make a slow start against Manchester City on Saturday.

Mauricio Pochettino has put the acquisition of silverware at the top of the Spurs agenda, ahead of a place in the top four.

They face the biggest obstacle to a Premier League title at the Etihad Stadium against the champions and it will be imperative, according to Lloris, that they avoid conceding early as they did in the 3-1 win over Aston Villa in their opening fixture.

Hugo Lloris says its time for Tottenham to stop talking about trophies and deliver this season

'I think we have been talking about trophies now for at least two seasons,' Lloris said. 'It is one thing to talk about it - it is another thing to show what we can do. We don't need to talk any more about winning trophies.

'It is the ambition of the board, it is the ambition of the manager and the coaching staff and it is the ambition of the players. So we don't really need to add any more words about this.

'Just focus on our performances and our games and try to be as consistent as we can and finish as high as we can.'

On the challenge of City and the wider importance of one game in a season, Lloris cited City taking four points from two games against Liverpool in the 2018-19 campaign, which they ultimately won by a single point.

'It is going to be a big, big game,' he said. 'It may only be the second week of the season, but every big game can be decisive so it is important to be ready. Of course, we are playing away so it is important to get something there if we can.

'It is going to be interesting and we know in that type of game the gap can be so close. Certainly it is not big enough to let your opponent take the advantage like against Villa when we conceded the early goal.

Following an opening-day win against Villa, Spurs face a tricky trip to the Etihad on Saturday

'That type of detail can have a big impact in a game like City because if you give them an easy start you make things even more complicated.

'Whatever happens against Manchester City there are plenty of games to come after that one. The only thing Saturday's result will tell us is the truth of that one game.

'But we all know it is the type of game that could make the difference. The games between Manchester City and Liverpool last season had a good impact for City.'
