Manchester City record signing Rodri believes the club are struggling to deal with participation in multiple competitions due to their recent injury troubles which may have contributed to their poor start to the Premier League season.

Pep Guardiola is aiming to win his third league title in a row with the Blues, but City have made their worst start to a league campaign since he took charge of the club in 2016.

Defeat against both Norwich and Wolves as well as a draw against Tottenham means Liverpool have opened up an eight point lead at the top of the table following a perfect start to the campaign.

Rodri believes the injuries have taken their toll as well as juggling participation in both the Carabao Cup and Champions League.

The Spain international claimed that Liverpool and City's battle for the title is unlike anything else in Europe, with both sides setting standards no other two clubs have been able to match.

When asked to explain their losses in the league, he told ESPN: "I won my first title as soon as I arrived [Community Shield], so that [start] was good.

City have been hit with many injuries in defence - Aymeric Laporte, John Stones and Benjamin Mendy have all picked up problems - while both Kevin De Bruyne and Leroy Sane have also been absent.
