Real Madrid star Vinicius Jr pointed to the development of Raheem Sterling in response to criticism regarding his lack of goals under Zinedine Zidane ahead of this month's Champions League clash against Manchester City.

However, even if he is picked he may not come face to face with Sterling as the England international is facing a race for fitness after sustaining a hamstring injury during the defeat to Tottenham.

Vinicius could feature against the Blues at the end of the month when City travel to the Bernabeu for the first leg of the Champions League round of 16 tie against the Spanish giants on February 26.

"I'm very calm and I know at some point the goals will come," Vinicius explained to Esporte Interativo.

Vinicius has made six starts in La Liga, a further nine as a substitute, but has netted just one league goal and registered only one assist.

The Brazilian has revealed he isn't concerned about criticism regarding his finishing and used Sterling as an example that the best is yet to come.

"[Raheem] Sterling, at my age, did the same thing.
