Player-manager Vincent Kompany has taken the step of making himself captain of Anderlecht once again, before relinquishing tactical and matchday responsibilities for head coach Simon Davies to deal with.

The Manchester City legend returned to his boyhood club this summer after taking the player-coach role, but has so far overseen Anderlecht's worst start in 21 years.

Now Kompany has decided to take drastic action, by allowing himself to fully focus on the playing side of things while placing extra responsibility on Davies in a coaching capacity.

Since returning to the club in the dual role, Kompany has overseen the worst start in 21 years

The news was revealed by Belgian publication HLN, who outline that Kompany felt the need to take immediate action after his side recently conceded four goals in one half against Kortrijk.

After discussions with his second in command, Kompany has agreed with former Manchester United man Davies how things will work going forward.

'Kompany must be more a player during the match,' the Welshman told HLN.

'He must be able to really lead the team on the field. Of course no one doubts that he can, but it is important that he is merely one of the players during the match.

'So, together with my staff, I will take on the tactics next to the field. Because you can plan some things in advance, surprising things always happen during a match. I take that on me.'
