Pep Guardiola does not expect Manchester City's long-term targets to be available this month.

However, City are unlikely do major business this month with a number of key personnel returning from injury and Guardiola does not see the winter window as a prime opportunity to land the long-term solutions they need to bolster their squad.

"The transfer window is the same in the summer, maybe shorter but it's a chance for the clubs to do something for new players and those who want to leave," he said.

"Sometimes we have done it but normally when you want to buy a player it's for five or six years and that doesn't normally happen in this window.

For loan players maybe it can happen but the big clubs don't buy for six months and they are not selling in that period.

"If you have no injuries and you are satisfied with the players as in our case, we decide we are going with the players we have had since the start of the season."

The Blues missed out on Jorginho last summer and the need to have cover for Fernandinho has been emphasised in recent games when the team have faltered without the Brazilian dynamo.
