Manchester City midfielder Rodri has admitted he had reservations about leaving boyhood club Atletico Madrid for the Premier League champions this summer.

Pep Guardiola's broke City's transfer record to the land the holding midfielder for £62m, swooping the 23-year-old talent from Diego Simeone after just one season at the Wanda Metropolitano.

The Spaniard earned a reputation as one of world's most exciting midfield prospects last season, helping Atletico to second in La Liga - above city rivals Real Madrid.

Rodri has started all eight of City's top-flight games so far this season, but after shock defeats to Wolves and Norwich - and with the Etihad side eight points behind Liverpool - there are gaps to be filled.

Without him, Atletico sit third in Spanish top tier, three points behind Zinedine Zidane's Real after eight games.

Rodri has joined up with his national side for their European Championships qualifiers against Norway and Sweden over the international break, after playing 90 minutes in Spain's last fixtures: a 4-0 win over the Faroe Islands.

When he returns from international duty, the midfielder will be expected to start when City resume their chase of Liverpool with an away trip to Crystal Palace on Saturday.
