Pep Guardiola is said to be keen on Maguire replacing City legend Vincent Kompany, but the price is far in excess of what City would be prepared to pay, according to the Daily Mail.

However, that stance could now open the door to rivals United – who have long been linked with 26-year-old Maguire.

The addition of Maguire would certainly be a welcome one to a United defence that has failed to convince in recent times, although it is thought that the player himself is more in favour of a switch to The Etihad.

Leicester’s £90million valuation of Harry Maguire has reportedly put on hold Manchester City’s move for the England defender.

The Premier League champions have a history of walking away from deals that get too expensive, with now United duo Alexis Sanchez and Fred two cases in point.

Leicester, who signed Maguire to a new five-year contract last September, do not want to lose one of their best players and are taking a tough stance on Maguire and the likes of Ben Chilwell and James Maddison.

Red Devils boss Ole Gunnar Solksjaer is looking to revamp his squad this summer after a disastrous 2018-19 campaign, and has already brought in £18m winger Daniel James from Swansea.
