The Scottish champions, who last season failed to reach the Champions League group stages after a shock exit in the third qualifying round to Lithuanian side FK Sudava, have once again fallen in the third qualifying round stage.

As Manchester City continue to build up towards their latest UEFA Champions League campaign, they won’t have the prospect of competing in an all-British clash with Celtic.

Man City, who are still desperate to secure their first ever Champions League crown, are in pot one alongside European’s elite, such as current European champions Liverpool, Barcelona and Bayern Munich.

The draw for the Champions League group stage will take place on August 29 at 4.30pm and will be hosted in Monaco

Because of last night’s latest qualifying round results, it means that City’s potential group stage opponents have altered due of the competition’s pot formats.

Last night, Neil Lennon’s side suffered a shock exit to Romanian side CFR Cluj, losing 4-3 on the night at Celtic Park and 5-4 on aggregate.

But while Man City won’t have to go up against the Scottish giants, Pep Guardiola’s side will also not have to face a tricky trip to Portugal to face Porto either.
