Man City youngster Jayden Braaf gives Pep Guardiola another attacking option

Jayden Braaf stole the headlines when Manchester City Under-21s played Rochdale last season.

Then a nippy waif of a 16-year-old, his two late goals as a substitute capped a dramatic comeback win for Paul Harsley's men and sent them into the quarter-finals of the EFL Trophy.

However, Guardiola is not short of options and Braaf now offers him another very different kind of threat that few defenders will relish facing.

Where last year City had been made to pay for not converting possession into chances, Braaf made no mistake as he rattled in the opening goal in off the post in a side that fizzed with confidence.

Rochdale's own wonderkid, Luke Matheson, had club staff feeling sorry for him by half-time, so good so often was Braaf.

But it is not their best position and while being nowhere near the level of Leroy Sane, Braaf looks the closest direct alternative to what the German offers: an unpredictable box of tricks that can burn defenders with speed and skill.

On Wednesday night it was a taller, broader 17-year-old - albeit only by a few weeks - that stepped back out on the Spotland turf with signs of decision-making to match his electric pace.
