Manchester City resume their Champions League campaign with a heavyweight clash against Real Madrid on Friday night.

Man City tasted disappointment in both the Premier League and FA Cup since the season restarted, with Liverpool winning the title before Pep Guardiola's side were knocked out of the cup by eventual winners Arsenal.

But a first European Cup remains within reach for City, and they have the upper hand as Zinedine Zidane's Spanish champions Real head to Manchester.

City left the Bernabeu with a 2-1 away win in the first leg of this last-16 tie back in February before the season shut down.

Although Zidane has won the competition three times as a coach, it will take something truly special to knock out Guardiola's team at this point.

Date, time and venue

Man City vs Real Madrid is scheduled for a 8pm BST kick-off on Friday, August 7, 2020.

The match will be played behind closed doors at Etihad Stadium with no fans due to be present due to government guidelines regarding coronavirus.

Team news

Sergio Aguero is City's key absentee for the tie, with the striker out after undergoing knee surgery in late June.

Claudio Bravo is also on the sidelines with a muscle problem, while Benjamin Mendy is suspended meaning Joao Cancelo could start at left-back.

As for Real, they will be missing talisman Sergio Ramos after his late red card in the first leg. Marcelo missed the run-in of LaLiga with an adductor injury, so is a doubt here.

Prediction: Man City 2-2 Real Madrid

Real need to score at least twice in Manchester to stand any chance of progressing, so expect them to attack from the off.

City's defence has been far from solid of late, but Guardiola's men should have enough to get the result needed on the night to reach the quarter-finals.

Head to head (h2h) history and results

The two sides have met five times previously in the Champions League.

Real have won twice, drawn twice and lost once, though that one defeat was in the first leg of this tie way back in February.
