Manchester City are reportedly monitoring Benfica star Alejandro Grimaldo as they continue to be linked with a possible new left-back.

Arsenal and Atletico Madrid have been linked with the Spain under-21 international, who came through Barcelona's La Masia academy before moving to Benfica for around £2m in 2016.

The 23-year-old Spanish left-back has been compared to Barcelona full-back Jordi Alba, and has four goals and five assists this season in Portugal.

However, Sport (via Calciomercato) say City are not frontrunners in the chase to sign the 19-year-old, as Juve’s relationship with De Ligt’s agent Mino Raiola gives them an advantage.

Meanwhile, Juventus are reportedly leading the chase for Ajax defender Matthijs De Ligt.

City, Barcelona and Liverpool are all rumoured to be interested in signing the highly-rated defender, who is expected to follow Frenkie De Jong out of the Johan Cruyff Arena this summer.

City have been linked with various left-backs as Benjamin Mendy has spent a large part of his two seasons at the club absent through injury.
