Man City finally returned to winning ways last night with an emphatic return to their best by smashing Burnley 4-1.
Failure to win could have put an end to the title race before new year, but City bounced back from the disappointment of last week's results to hammer the Clarets.
City dominated from start to finish but were only one goal ahead at half-time, courtesy of Gabriel Jesus' stunning curled strike.
The Blues' dominance continued in the second-half, however, and another goal from Jesus as well as a thunderous strike from distance by Rodri and a fine solo effort by Riyad Mahrez rounded off the win, before Robbie Brady added a late consolation.
Liverpool's lead over City has been cut to eight points but they can extend it again if they win the Merseyside derby tonight.
