Van Dijk could have joined City

Manchester City came close to signing Virgil van Dijk from Celtic, according to the Hoops' former manager Ronny Deila.

Van Dijk moved to Southampton from Celtic in 2015, before his £75m move to Liverpool two-and-a-half years later.

But according to Deila, City could have brought the Dutchman to the Premier League.

"Did I get in touch with City? Yes. I said you have to take him," the Norwegian said. "They said, 'OK, tell me the best European game he has played and we will watch it'.

"I couldn't tell them what game that was because he hadn't had any real good European games. He was really dominant in Scotland but he got sent off against Inter away.

"That was a big test. I think if he had played fantastically in that game, he would have been bought. I think Van Dijk was good, but he didn't have that one really, really good game in Europe."

Bernardo picks out top five goals

Bernardo Silva has selected his favourite five goals in a City shirt, including efforts against Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United.

The Portugal international has been a major hit since moving to the Etihad from Monaco in 2017, scoring 29 goals and providing 33 assists in 144 games.

And Bernardo, in conversation with the Premier League, has now picked out his best strikes for the club.

The attacking midfielder chose his effort against Manchester United last season as “the one that means the most”.

And Bernardo also chose goals against Chelsea, Arsenal, Cardiff and Burnley in his top five.

Harrison’s Leeds move delayed - reports

Leeds United will have to wait before making Jack Harrison’s move from City permanent, according to Football Insider.

The winger moved to the Etihad from New York City in January 2018 and joined Leeds on loan in July 2018.

He has remained at Elland Road ever since, embarking on two consecutive season-long loan spells with Marcelo Bielsa’s side.

Bielsa reportedly had hoped to wrap up a £10m deal for Harrison as soon as the transfer window opened in June.

However, that will not be possible as the 2019/20 season has still not been completed, meaning Leeds will have to wait before attempting to acquire the 23-year-old on a permanent basis.
