Barcelona defender ‘much closer’ to City move - report

City have made progress in their pursuit of Barcelona right-back Nelson Semedo, according to a report in Mundo Deportivo.

The Portugal international appeared to be set for a move to Juventus, but now reportedly favours a switch to the Premier League champions.

It is reported Semedo could join City in a deal that sees Joao Cancelo head the other way. Pep Guardiola is believed to have been unimpressed by the 25-year-old, who signed for the club from Juventus last summer.

Cancelo, if he joins Barcelona, could reportedly then be used by the Catalan club to facilitate a move for Inter Milan's Lautaro Martinez.

Yaya Toure accused of misleading Brazilian club during transfer talks

Former Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure has been accused of deceiving Brazilian club Botofogo after it was announced he would join rivals Vasco da Gama.

Botofogo vice-chairman Ricardo Rotenberg claimed the player had given his word that he would join the club.

Toure has been without a club since leaving Chinese side Qingdao Huanghai six months ago.

And the 37-year-old was expected to sign for Botofogo having held talks with the club.

But Toure, having been enlisted to help lawyer Luiz Roberto Leven Siano in his attempt to become Vasco' da Gama's next President, wrote on Instagram: “I want to thank Leven for including me in this project. I can hardly wait to see all the Vasco fans very soon. It is going to be Vasco.”

An angry Rotenberg responded: “I'm disgusted. He's a guy who's word means nothing. He has an attitude but no character.”

Former Barcelona defender credits Guardiola for his progress as a coach

Giovanni van Bronckhorst has revealed that the influence of City boss Guardiola has helped him develop as a manager.

The Dutchman, who is currently in charge of Guangzhou R&F in China, spent five months studying Guardiola’s methods and tactics.

And he has spoken of the impact that had on his own approach to coaching.

“Last year I spent five months with the City group and a lot of time in Manchester with Pep,” Van Bronckhorst told Sky Sports . “He was very open. He talked about the training sessions and I could watch and see everything and talk with his staff.

“Those are moments you can see him really in action and he is a very special coach. Those months with him in Manchester I could see a lot of things I didn't see before and it helped to develop me as a coach.

“Pep is a coach at the moment who is influencing a lot of young coaches. And he's not the only one, Jurgen Klopp is doing a great job at Liverpool.”
