Here are your Manchester City evening headlines for Tuesday June 30.

Former Liverpool midfielder slams Man City guard of honour plan

Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy has criticised the notion of Pep Guardiola’s side giving the new Premier League winners a guard of honour when they visit the Etihad Stadium on Thursday.

Murphy’s former side were confirmed as Premier League champions last week when Manchester City lost 2-1 to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge but he believes that a guard of honour on Thursday makes no sense.

He also added that there are some Liverpool players who would not be fit to lace Kevin De Bruyne’s boots.

“It’s a perception of respect, ‘the right thing to do’, the message you’re trying to send to the football world that when somebody wins, that you show respect and grace,” he told TalkSPORT.

“The fact City will be doing it on Thursday will show humility, saying ‘well done’ to Liverpool and appreciation for their quality. I think it’s a load of nonsense!

“I don’t know where it started and why it started, I would feel uncomfortable doing it. I’d do it because you have to do it, but I wouldn’t want to do it, because it’s not done with sincerity.

“Kevin de Bruyne is the best midfielder, probably, in the world, and he’s clapping his hands and giving a guard of honour to players who can’t even lace his boots.”

Hart opens up on relationship with Guardiola and Man City exit

Joe Hart insists that there was never any bad blood between him and Guardiola during his time with the Spaniard in Manchester.

England’s former first-choice goalkeeper was number one at the Etihad Stadium when Guardiola arrived before slowly moving down the pecking order behind Claudio Bravo and Willy Caballero.

Loans with both Torino and West Ham preceded a permanent move away from City when he moved to Burnley in 2018. But Hart is now on the move again after being released by the Lancashire club.

Speaking with BBC 5 Live, the 33-year-old played down the idea that anything unsavoury happened between him and Guardiola before his exit.

Hart said: "He’s one of the most powerful influencers in the game, if not the most powerful.

"He didn’t have a problem with me as a goalkeeper - there was never a cross word between us.

"Ability-wise, he saw what he needed to do for the future and that wasn’t me.

"It is what it is. I think it’s been kind of dragged on, it was a long time ago.”

Former Man City midfielder claims Liverpool won’t be allowed huge points gap again

Former City midfielder Stephen Ireland believes that Liverpool’s comfortable title win this season will be a huge ‘lesson’ for Guardiola and his squad.

Liverpool secured their first Premier League title last week with a record seven games to spare - a record previously held by Manchester United with five fixtures left.

However, Ireland believes that this season has been a one-off and his former side won’t let Liverpool win by such a margin in the 2020/21 Premier League campaign.

“It’s been a bit of a rebuilding year - David Silva is on his way out, Vincent Kompany left and they didn’t quite replace him,” he told Sky Sports.

“It’s been an eye-opener just how much work has to be done now throughout this summer period. As Liverpool are pushing on, that gap was getting bigger and bigger and bigger, and City struggled to haul it back.

“I can’t see the gap being this big again next year. I don’t see Guardiola allowing it to happen, the players will want it as well. It’s been a bit of a lesson for everybody.”
