Here are your Manchester City evening headlines for Monday June 29.

Guardiola strengthens City’s position in Sane negotiations

Leroy Sane has played just 11 minutes of football since Manchester City’s return to action, with Pep Guardiola’s selection habits strengthening the club’s position in negotiations over the winger’s future, writes Simon Bajkowski.

The City manager has confirmed Sane will be free to leave the Etihad Stadium this summer should the right over come in, with Bayern Munich continuing in their long-term pursuit of the 24-year-old.

But it hasn’t been ruled out that City could allow the final year of Sane’s contract to run down, with the last four games showing Guardiola is not dependent on the German international.

Guardiola’s refusal to use Sane has denied Bayern Munich to examine the player following the knee injury he suffered at the start of the season, while also preventing any potentially distracting fanfare.

Dwight Yorke has urged his former club Manchester United to make a shock move for Manchester City winger Leroy Sane with the German’s future at the Etihad Stadium up in the air.

Sane seems likely to leave City this summer with Bayern Munich long-term admirers of the 24-year-old, but Yorke has suggested United make a move for the player, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer keen to add a right winger to his squad.

“United has got a real good attacking bunch of young players. Add in Sancho, I like the boy Sane. If I was to airdrop, the boy Sane at City I really do (like),” the former striker told Stadium Astro. “We haven’t got a left-footed sort of winger.

“The boy [Mason] Greenwood is coming to the fore recently but I like Sane. I really do think this kid is probably the quickest out of all them as well and he’s really got a good attitude. I know he’s got some injuries but if I was brave, if I was Man United manager at this point in time, that’s the type of person I would go for. He’s had a couple of years in the Premier League, I’ve watched him very closely, he’s a player that I like a lot.”

‘Obsession’ can help Phil Foden become most decorated English player ever

Former Manchester City defender Joleon Lescott believes Phil Foden’s “obsession” for football can help him become the most decorated English player of all-time.

Foden impressed once again for City against Newcastle United at the weekend, providing an assist for Raheem Sterling in a 2-0 FA Cup quarter final win at St James’ Park, backing up his recent sparkling performances.

Lescott is not surprised by what he has seen from the young midfielder, referencing Foden’s hunger to learn. “I don't think his quality is ever going to be in question,” he told Manchester City’s post-match analysis show. “What he has, which I don't see many players have is an obsession with football. I don't just mean love of the game - I love the game - but he's like weirdly obsessed with the game.

“He walks around with a football, I did some work with England under-21s and I had to ban footballs from the hotel because he was constantly with one at his feet. He would want to stay extra on the field and do extra stuff so I had to monitor that. His obsession for football is none like I've seen before.”

Lescott went on to make a bold claim over how far Foden can go in the game, remarking: “Regards to what he can achieve, hopefully, touch wood, he can withstand injuries, he can be the most decorated English player in history.”
