Only four clubs could sign Leroy Sane this summer, former City midfielder claims

Bayern Munich are one of four clubs who are realistically able to snap up Manchester City man Leroy Sane this summer.

That’s according to Owen Hargreaves, the former City midfielder who began his career with the Bundesliga side and finished it at the Etihad Stadium.

Hargreaves told Goal he believes Bayern remain an option, having targeted the German last summer before he suffered a serious injury in the Community Shield. Sane is now back in training, but hasn’t played since damaging knee ligaments in the game against Liverpool in August.

"With Leroy Sane at Man City, if he leaves, there’s probably only four teams he would go to,” the former England midfielder said.

“Barcelona, Real Madrid, Juventus and Bayern Munich are the only ones who can offer something compared to what he has at City."

The latest on when Manchester City players will return to training

Premier League clubs have been given permission to resume training while obeying social distancing rules, but Manchester City didn’t join other teams in restarting sessions at the start of the week.

While there has been no confirmation of a return to competitive action, with each team having nine or 10 games remaining, City forward Raheem Sterling has suggested teams would need a month’s training to ensure they’re match-ready.

"You’d need a full four to five weeks, especially if you’re going to go back into competition, when you’re literally paid to win. You do need to do that preparation – you can’t just go straight in."

City’s players were due to return to the training complex today, with the MEN understanding none of the six positive Covid-19 tests from Premier League employees relate to any of Pep Guardiola’s squad, or indeed any other staff at the club.

However, it’s unclear whether the return to the premises would be accompanied by actual training sessions.

In football, the rule that you were either a ‘tracksuit manager’ or a ‘suit manager’ has been turned on its head by Pep Guardiola, and his Premier League rival Jurgen Klopp has noticed.

Klopp is more tracksuit than suit, having gone more or less straight from playing into management at Mainz, but he has given the Manchester City boss credit for his style.

“I think the best-dressed manager is Pep Guardiola,” Klopp told Kick It Out, explaining “Everything he wears looks exactly right for him. He doesn’t wear a suit, just casual stuff.

"Be yourself as a coach. If you want to look great, then wonderful. I’m just not made for this. It’s important you do what is right for you because whatever role model you have, you can never do the same things.”

While Klopp’s and Guardiola’s teams remain fierce rivals at the top of the Premier League, sometimes you just have to give credit where it’s due.
