Gary Neville has delivered his early-season verdict on Manchester United and Manchester City after contrasting starts to the season.

The former United captain has insisted Ole Gunnar Solskjaer must be given time to stamp his mark on such a young group of players, whilst also claiming Aymeric Laporte's knee injury could cost City the Premier League title.

United haven't taken three points since the opening day of the season, dropping seven points against Wolves, Crystal Palace and Southampton.

"I think this will cost City points.

"If Aymeric Laporte's injury is a serious one, it is a big problem for City," Neville explained.

In his latest Sky Sports Column, Neville said: "When you have a young team like the one Manchester United have - it's got a lot of players who are developing and trying to improve themselves - I think they are going to get a lot of results like this where they do OK in the game.

The Reds haven't made the greatest start to the new campaign, with one win and only five points from their opening four league fixtures.
