Ferran Torres wants to follow in Cristiano Ronaldo's footsteps as he approaches the next challenge of his football career.

The 20-year-old Valencia winger is set to join Manchester City this summer after the two clubs agreed a fee of an initial £21m with no other complications to the transfer expected.

Despite his young age, Torres already has three years of La Liga experience and has earned rave reviews for his performances both for his club and the Spain youth teams. As well as growing up admiring the work David Villa and David Silva did at Valencia, the exciting winger has his sights set on following the example of another young wideman that came to Manchester more than a decade ago and has become one of the two best players in the world.

"From an early age I had two main references, one when I was very small and he arrived at Valencia and that was David Villa. Villa and [David] Silva the duo that took Valencia to such great heights.," he said.

"But for me, Cristiano above all is a great reference not just because of the way he plays his football but also because of the way he carries himself away from football. It is worthy of admiration and I would like to follow his steps.

"He went out to eat the world and I believe he has eaten it."

Torres is being brought in at City to help fill the void left by Leroy Sane's departure for Bayern Munich. Torres has predominantly been used on the right whereas Sane was almost exclusively a left winger.

However, not only do City possess a number of versatile forwards that can play across the front line but there are also hopes that Torres can adapt as he develops his game under a manager renowned for improving players.

"Maybe my best position at the moment is on the flanks but with the passing years when I get a bit older and perhaps lose a bit of speed and the power that I am known for then maybe I will finish playing inside because I have played there in the past," he said.

"Something else instilled in me since I was small is that the more positions you can cover on the pitch then the more possibilities you have to play and the more you can contribute."

The Ferran Torres interview was conducted by European football journalist Guillem Balague. To follow Ferran’s journey as he embarks on his new challenge in the Premier League, go to @ferrantorres7 on Instagram and @ferrantorres20 on Twitter.
