England legend James Anderson will train at Manchester City as he bids to recover from the injury that has threatened his career.

Erson, England's leading wicket-taker, missed most of last summer's action with a series of calf problems.

The 37-year-old got through just four overs in the opening Ashes Test before pulling up with an injury and has not played since.

Erson has already been ruled out of England's two-Test series in New Zealand that starts in November, while he is a doubt for the subsequent tour of South Africa.

In a bid to regain his fitness, Anderson will train at City's Etihad training complex, making use of the Premier League club's excellent facilities.

BBC Sport say the Lancashire hero will train at City for the next two months alongside England's head of strength and conditioning Rob Ahmun.

Erson has no plans to retire and hopes to emulate Wales and Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs, who played into his 40s. Last year, Anderson spent time training at Premier League side Burnley after receiving an invitation from Clarets boss Sean Dyche.
