A host of European sides are interested in signing midfielder Yangel Herrera on loan from Manchester City, City Watch understands.

Herrera joined City from Atlético Venezuela in his homeland for around £1.7 million and has won nine caps for his country.

NYCFC chief Claudio Reyna has also proposed another loan spell in the Big Apple, but City are keen to test Herrera in Europe and believe he has the potential to go far in the game.

The Venezuelan international recently completed an impressive two-season loan at City’s sister club New York City FC and has been training with Pep Guardiola’s first team while a decision on his next step is made.

Various clubs from Spain, France and the Netherlands have asked about the 21-year-old’s availability, while a move to the Netherlands is also an option since he would be guaranteed playing time at an Eredivisie team.

Lyon, known for their ability to spot good talents, have previously tried to sign Herrera but were turned away by City.

Some consideration has also been put into keeping Herrera at the club and having him line up for the under-23s in the Premier League 2, but Pep Guardiola is outspoken about the flaws of the English developmental system and prefers players to be loaned out when they are old enough.
