In total injuries cost Premier League clubs a record £221m across the season.

Manchester City spent more than £26million on injured players last season while London trio West Ham, Arsenal and Tottenham were the worst hit in terms of the amount of time players lost thanks to their injuries.

New research from Marsh, who have compiled the Football Injury Index, has shown that Premier League champions City - who saw star man Kevin de Bruyne miss most of the season - incurred a total of 44 separate injuries across the course of last season.

Wolves suffered the fewest injuries over the season - 11 - and thus incurred the lowest cost, just £1.1m.

West Ham suffered most when it comes to days lost over the 2018-19 season.

Across their domestic treble-winning season, Pep Guardiola’s side paid out £26,345,944 to injured players.

That figure stands as the fewest of any top six team with rivals Manchester United sustaining the most (63), with those ruled out missing a total of 1,407 days across the campaign.
