Andrew Robertson has insisted that Liverpool are enjoying their Premier League title battle with Manchester City following Sunday’s 2-0 victory over Chelsea at Anfield.

That result lifted Liverpool back to the top of the table after Manchester City had gone ahead for a matter of hours following their 3-1 win over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

Although Liverpool currently occupy pole position in the table, City have the advantage going into the final weeks of the season as they have a game in hand on their rivals and are just two points worse off.

Liverpool last competed for the title during the 2013-14 season and although this is a new experience for the majority of their squad, Robertson suggested that the win over Chelsea was evidence that they are not suffering from any nerves.

Speaking ahead of Liverpool’s Champions League quarter-final tie against Porto on Wednesday, Robertson said: ‘I think we’re all enjoying it. You saw that with our performance against Chelsea. The fans enjoyed it, we enjoyed it. It’s easier when you are in front in a game.

‘This is the first time a lot of us have found ourselves in a position like this and you have to enjoy experiences like this. Hopefully we’ll be celebrating come the end. But we know there’s a lot of hard work still to be done.’

Liverpool’s victory over Chelsea was seen as a significant result as it marked their final match against a top-six opponent, while City have to face Tottenham and Manchester United in their next two league fixtures.

Robertson has been one of the standout players of Liverpool’s campaign, starting in all but two of their 34 Premier League matches and contributing a league-high nine assists from defence.

The Scotland international has barely put a foot wrong all season but he did suffer a nervy moment on Sunday when he slipped in the second half to present Gonzalo Higuain with possession inside Liverpool’s defensive third.

Fortunately, for him, nothing came of it and he took to Instagram to make light of the incident post-match. Much of the talk before the game had been about Steven Gerrard’s costly slip during Liverpool’s 2-0 defeat to Chelsea in 2014 – a result that had damaging consequences for their title challenge.
